Yep, we are officially wed. More details and pictures soon!

Wednesday, September 2, 2009

I Can Has Cheezburger - one of my favorite sites - has hosted a few marriage proposals in the past few years. On Valentines Day in 2008 they ran a series of LOLcat images so Jon could pop the question to Loretta.

I Love Google

Naked Wedding. Enjoy:

Oh yes, there are photos...

What Have I Been Up To?

So I have completely slacked on posting because, well, it took a back seat to the actual planning of the wedding. But today's a good day:

-We get married 1 month from today (almost to the hour)
-The bridesmaid dresses came in today
-My last fitting was today
-And my mother's dress is in as are all the tux measurements

So, basically, we all get to wear clothes at the wedding!

Sweet.

LOVE!

Possibly the most adorable improv ever:

Improv Everywhere picked a random couple getting married at the City Clerk’s Office in Manhattan and threw them a surprise wedding reception. The video is surprisingly sweet.

There is so much to love about this shot:

Mostly I like the very honest look at how I assume Neil and I will feel at the end of the day. Also I find the first couple completely adorable.

Found at The White Aisle.

Not Quite Sure That's Why I'm Doing It...

Inside: Hello to becoming the Mrs.

Perhaps not the most romantic explanation as to why you would get engaged, but still pretty great. I especially the simplicity of it.

This, and many more, available at Naughty Betty.

This picture has allayed (almost) all of my fears of having a rainy day wedding.

12 Too Many

12toomany.blogspot.com is a site specifically designed for anyone who recently through a party and has a few leftover items they just don't need anyone.

It's a little bare right now but I'll be keeping my eyes open for anything cool for the reception.

Kissing Menu

So, according to all bride and grooms I've yet seen, the whole clinking your glass to get them to kiss apparently gets old before the end of the evening. The cure? A kissing menu!

I found this on Happy Hour Bride and it is basically a list of silly things your guests need to do in order to get you to kiss you new spouse.

I kind of love this. Minus the congo list.

That's a Sweet Cake

Cool right? Instructions and more pictures on Omnomicon.

You have to admit, if our beautiful multi-layered white cake were cut open to reveal a rainbow, it'd be pretty cool...

My Shoes Do, Too

So originally I wanted red soles on my wedding shoes, but these "I Do" rhinestones might be just as good.

It's actually blue as well and meant to be stuck right on the bottom of your special day shoes.

Available at the Classy Bride.

Awesome. Period.

I don't know whether to post on this or run right out and buy it for my future husband:

Yep, coordinating First Family pillow cases. From a collaboration between Calvin Klein, artist Jonathan Horowitz and the Art Production Fund, the fund, produced Horowitz’s Pillow Talk Cases, featuring rotating pairs of white Calvin Klein pillowcases silk-screened with names of über-famous couples.

A limited edition of the pillow cases are on sale at the store, as well as at P.S.1 and the fund’s Web site. All proceeds will benefit the fund.

Really?

Starting in April, you can have your fantasy Shakespearean wedding.

There is an adorable balcony in Verona Italy that is rumored to be the very same balcony from Romeo and Juliet. Lack of solid evidence aside, the balcony is located on the second floor of the supposed 14th-century Casa di Giulietta which Italian folklore claims was the home of the Renaissance-era Cappellos who were supposedly the family portrayed in William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet as the Capulets.

I can say from experience that the courtyard outside the balcony is usually chock full of tourists (not to mention a statue of Juliette rumored to bring luck to one's love life) and, well, not very romantic. You have always been able to pay a small fee to walk out onto the balcony for a quick glance or peck, but in April you can get married on the balcony for a fee of 1,000 euros (or $1,300 US). This payment will ensure you rental of the house (and balcony) for a wedding, but judging by the size of the balcony, I have to assume the ceremony itself will be performed inside the home.

Now I'm not a big fan of R&J but does anyone really think its a good idea to emulate this couple on their wedding day? Not sure if you made it to the end, but, uh, it didn't really work out.

Custom Papel Picado Banner

Love it!

Available via Casa Bonampak, Mexican paper cut outs personalized with your names and the date of the wedding. All I'm saying is they have a horseshoe and that sounds Texan to me...

I Do Need a Past Bowl...

From Rust Designs, a new bowl featuring a birch tree graphic with your initials "carved" into the tree. Complete with a platinum rim and personalized heart in the center.

Featuring 14K gold or real platinum rim. The 9" diameter bowl is large enough to hold a side dish, perfect for special meals or dramatic displays.

Sure, the Girl Scout in me is against carving into trees, but the rest of me thinks this is adorable.

Mmmmm... Lingerie

Just thought I'd share, Trousseau is a super cute store in the DC metro area.

Popped in today to look for some undergarments for the big day and, while there is a bit of overdone wedding ridiculousness there is also quite a lot of beautiful slips, robes, etc. The salespeople were very nice and very responsive.

Be aware, you can not make returns for anything other than store credit but when I explained that I was purchasing in order to try on my gown, they encouraged me to return if anything did not work (tag attached) to trade out.

For more information and directions, check out the site: www.trousseaultd.com.

Penguin + Wedding + Napkins = Awesome

It's hard to read, but it says "We Do" on the top!!! The groom is sporting a black tie and the bride is carrying 2 roses.

LOVE it!

From The Penguin Gift Shop, where else?

Penguin + Wedding = Awesome

I think they really missed the boat by not ensuring the penguins all had bow ties, but still a very cute way to toast the happy couple.

The set is by HeyItsRedd and is available on Etsy.

I Fingerprint You

This speaks to the crime scene investigator in me: personalized fingerprint cufflinks!

From Not On The High Street, they send you an impression kit with easy to follow instructions, then you send your prints back and create the cufflinks. Super cool!

Pretty...

I just love these necklaces from Etsy, both from PenelliBelle's Shop. Something more than plain pearls, but still very elegant.

Holy Guacamole!

My wedding dress is in!

Yep, the actual dress I will be wearing has arrived (from Spain) and is awaiting my inspection at the shop.

200 Days...

Yep, as of today we are exactly 20 days from our wedding date!

Sure, that's more than 6 months to go, but you gotta celebrate the milestones!

What a Great Idea

I think at some point every bride comes up across this question: how do we honor our family and friends who passed away before our wedding day?

Here is an idea featured on Style Me Pretty: the couple honored her late father during the reception by serving his favorite cigars and including a simple sign and photo.

(Photo by Twin Lens. Link via Melissa's Smitten.)

Jackpot!

Yes; a way to include martinis in our wedding day (and still remember it)!

Okay, so I know the idea of serving a small course in a martini glass is nothing new, but for a gal know for her signature drink (dirty martini) this would be soooo cute! Extra points if the course can involve olives...

They're Not Little People, But...

Yep, that's a Playmobil bride and groom. Even though the site I got this from (Wedded Bits on Brides.com) suggests this as a gift for flower girls, I think its appropriate for big kids too.

See the Playmobil site to purchase.

Ps... I think the the get away car is even better...

Except My Fiance Would Eat Them

Yep, those are save the date cookies! Awesome!

These are from The Flour Pot, a bakery in Ambler PA and - while I see that an edible save the date rather defeats the purpose - I still think these look super duper neat.

They go for $5.50 a cookie and can be customized to match your wedding colors.

Sorry, Dad

Well, we already spent a pretty penny or two on my gown, but we apparently could have saved a bundle:

Yep, that is a young lady in a self designed 100% TP gown.

Vicky Heir won a toilet paper wedding dress competition in the lead up to Christchurch's Wedding Expo.

Heir won a promotional competition with her Cottonsofts gown, beating seven other designers.

Hi-Larious

Afraid you'll forget your anniversary? Or perhaps that your soon-to-be spouse will? Worry no longer!

I give you: The Remember Ring. About 24 hours before your special day begins, a "hot spot" on the ring's interior will begin to warm up, reaching 120º F for approximately 10 seconds. And in case that doesn't work, the ring will continue to warm up every hour, on the hour, all day long!

The projected price, should this ever actually be crafted (its in design stage at the moment) is $760. Burn cream extra.

From BoingBoing.

I Also Love the Duckies

The Frenchie and I just spent out third Valentine's together and, as has become tradition, it involved sushi.

So, in that vein, please enjoy this sushi wedding cake:

According to the designer, the bulk of this "cake" is apparently made up of sushi rice (sturdy enough to form stable rounds). Regular cake pans were used for molds onto which was added huge quantities of salmon, yellowtail and ahi, each placed carefully in the bottom of each cake pan.

You can see a recipe for the cake along with the photos of the finished product here.

Found on SlashFood.

Time to Create a Category for Etsy

Remember cootie catchers?

Sure, you do. What could be better than cootie catchers at your wedding?!

Yep, personalized wedding favors with questions about you and your fiance to entertain your guests while awaiting the start of the cocktail hour.

Then can be completely personalized to the couple's taste/theme including font, design, questions, images and so on.

$1 each or less if buying more than 25.

Ah, the 60s...

New York Magazine has a slide show up of 1968 wedding photos. It is, in part, to celebrate the magazine's anniversary.

Enjoy!

Lanterns...

I love the idea of having lanterns at our wedding. We'll be outside for part of the reception, overlooking the mountains and no other lighting source fits in quite so well as camp lanterns:

This shot is from Paul Westlake via Brides.com and I just love it!

Hmmmm... wonder how high of a fire risk that would be...?

So Cute

I've never had any interest in a ring bearer / ring pillow, but I love this:

It's a beautiful ring bowl available through Etsy.

Loving the Etsy...

That's right, hot pink here I come...

Something Blue?

Here's a great idea for "something blue": embroidered label for your wedding dress (or a gentleman's suit) with you love's initials and your wedding date.

Apparently J Crew will do this for you, but the above example is from Etsy and only $26.

Super cute.

And, of course, Barbie inspired make up:

Okay, I'm Gonna Throw This Out There

Because I saw it today:

So I'm not nearly as obsessed with the Girls Next Doors as I once was (back when the only cable channel I had was E). Nonetheless... Miss September Necklace anyone?

Also:

I kinda love the martini glasses. Mind you, martinis are not allowed to figure prominently in my wedding day (so I can remember it) but I feel they will be at least somewhat involved in the bachelorette.

Just a thought.

Both available at the Bunny Store.
